Our Story…

Each Rocky Mountain Rustic creation began its journey over a hundred years ago as a cedar fence post, planted in the soil of ranches and fields across the early American West. Many homesteaders fenced their property with native cedar—naturally weather-hardy and insect-resisitant—leaving behind a treasure trove of material for me to craft into art pieces for your home or office. Each creation is unique; I think it’s pretty special to hold a piece of history in your hands. I hope you enjoy your purchase as much as I enjoyed crafting it.

Meet the Artist…

Tim Bergren is a sculptor from Colorado Springs, CO working primarily in wood. Tim’s work can be found across the United States and Canada. Early works included statuary and furniture for churches. More recently, he has turned to rustic expressions using reclaimed cedar fence posts. Over the last 3 decades, Tim’s work has been recognized for it’s beauty, creativity and craftsmanship.

The Posts…

Most ranchers call the posts I use “native cedars” but they are officially Rocky Mountain Juniper. Although, if you were to visit my shop you’d swear you just opened an old cedar chest.

When I visit a ranch there will often be a pile of posts pulled during recent fencing operations. It’s always a sad day for me when I find they’ve just burned a huge stack—and a sad day for them when they find out I was willing to pay for them…

It can take a day or two to sift through hundreds if not thousands of posts looking for the perfect cedars to use in my art. If you like hide and seek you’d love crawling through a pile setting aside pitch pine, Texas cedar, split rail and turned posts to find the beautiful “native cedar”. All the while keeping an eye out for rattlers.
